Is This Plant Self Pollinating?

Elberta Peach Tree is self-fertile, but the fruit crop will be larger if the tree is planted with a second tree.

Description

Prunus persica

Elberta is prized for fresh eating, canning or freezing because of the small freestone pits and thick, juicy flesh. Elberta originated in Marshallville, Georgia in 1870. One of the most beautiful, and productive of peach trees. Juicy, evenly yellow flesh is great for eating fresh, as well as, freezing and canning. This variety is also cold tolerant.

Planting & Care

Peaches prefer light, well-drained, somewhat sandy soil. Mulching helps retain moisture and stabilize the soil temperature. Peaches grow best in full sun in a location where cold air or frost will not settle. Choose a protected location that is sheltered from wind. Water regularly, at least weekly, during the first year. Keep the soil evenly moist, but not wet. Prune the trees annually in Winter when they are dormant to enhance productivity. Peach trees are very productive, and will grow to 25' tall. Enjoy clouds of showy pink blossoms in the Spring.
