One of the most adaptable and finest flavored of the yellow figs. The Excel fig is relatively new variety, being introduced in 1975. it is reported to be an Ira Condit selection using Kadota as the parent and released by Bill Storey a colleague of Ira Condit, it has been recognized as a more adaptable and more dependable producer than the popular Kadota fig. Vigorous and hardy to a wide range of climate zones the Excel has been referred to as the Dotatto hybrid or the Kadota hybrid. Very sweet and rich flavored the fig produces abundant crops of both the early breba crop and the later main crop. Wonderfully adapted to container growing and can be aggressively pruned to maintain a reasonable height. The fruit has Yellow skin with amber flesh producing a consistent crop of nice sized fruit. The eye is small to tight and less likely to spoil.

Planting & Care
Figs are adapted to a wide range of soil types only requiring good drainage. Plant in full sun with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight favoring the morning sun. Figs require very little extra attention other than to control the size and spread of the tree. Drought tolerant once established, water regularly the first year and then back off the second year in the ground. Excel is a great selection for container growing.
