Planting & Care
Pears grow best in full-sun in well-drained, slightly acidic soils. They also require good air circulation. Pears require full sunlight and good moisture. Pear trees have fewer insect problems than other fruit trees, so they are quite easy to maintain. Do not over fertilize. The trees tend to set more fruit than they can support. Thin to one fruit per cluster spaced 6" apart. Pruning is important to maintaining pear trees; prune trees to remove crossed and upward-growing banches. Trees can live 60 years.
