Planting & Care
Lime trees can produce ripe fruit year-round. They do well in a rich soil mixture of native soil and grow mulch. This tree must have well-draining soil and will not tolerate standing in water. Citrus like to be grown on the dry side with protection to the surface roots. Mulching helps retain moisture and helps to stabilize the soil temperature. Mulch to 3 to 4 inches deep to 3 feet outside the canopy. Requires full sun, 10 hours a day. Trees tend to be shrubby, and will reach 13' to 15' outdoors but can easily be kept 7' - 10' with regular pruning. The delicate white flowers are also very fragrant. Mexican Lime is more sensitive to cold than other citrus varieties, protect from cold at temperatures below 38 degrees.
