Planting & Care
p>Avocados are very sensitive to transplant shock. Take extra care not to disturb the root when transplanting. Avocados like fast-draining organic soil. Avocado trees prefer full sun, but young trees need some protection from hot sun until they develop dense foliage. Protect trunk by wrapping or painting with interior white latex paint diluted 50%. Water avocados on a regular basis during warm seasons. Mulch heavy. Avocados do not like cold damp soil and can easily develop root rot if they remain wet for long periods. They are also sensitive to cold and may require protection from frost. Avocados are often alternate bearing, and the fruit crop will be larger if the tree is planted with a second avocado tree.
