Description

Morus alba 'Pakistan'

A harbinger of the of the new fruit season, the Pakistani mulberry is typically the first fruit you will enjoy each season. The 2 to 4 inch long fruit hangs abundantly throughout the canopy in varying stages of maturity; from green to red and then a deep black when fully ripe. The long sweet raspberry flavored berries are a great treat each morning as you work your garden. Self fruitful ,setting dependably in zones 6 through 10, this heavy setting trees fruit is harvested over a 3 to 4 week period. Place a sheet below the tree to catch the falling fruit clean and harvested at your convenience. Adapted to the warmer dryer climates, the Pakistani mulberry sets well in zones 9 and 10. Not as hardy as other varieties, the Pakistani mulberry is not recommended in areas where temperatures dip below 28 degrees for extended periods or are prone to late freezes. The vigorous tree makes an excellent small shade tree and with the non-staining black fruit, there is no mess. Disease free so very easy to care for. Can be pruned aggressively after fruiting each year and maintained to less than 10 feet if desired. Adapted well to container growing.
