Description

Vitis vinifera "Pinot Noir"

One of the more popular varieties of red wine is the Pinot Noir. A small dark blue berry with a very distinctive flavor and lower in tannic acid than the more robust Burgundy type grapes. Pinot Noir prefers lots of sun over heat and as such is a popular coastal variety and one of the prefer grapes of the Pacific Northwest. Care is required to grow the somewhat delicate variety. Good drainage is a must and cool nights help to bring out the quality of this grape. Considered one of the oldest wine grape dating back to the 1st Century, it is thought that the Pinot Noir is as close as 1 generation removed from its wild ancestors
