The Wonderful Pomegranate is quite well known and for many years was the only pomegranate offered to the home gardener. Extremely large almost grapefruit sized fruit make it a first choice for commercial growers as well. It has bright red skin and deep red juicy arils that have soft edible seeds. A deep red skin and tangy flavor have made it a first choice for juicing and fresh eating. It can also be used ornamentally as its flowers are almost as bold as the fruit! Ripens in the fall just in time for the holiday season. The tree loves a hot climate and is drought tolerant once established. Wonderful pomegranate gets quite large, up to 18 feet tall and 12-to-15-foot spread; for this reason, it should be planted where it gets plenty of room or pruned aggressively to control size. Pomegranates are a great source of antioxidants.

Pomegranates grow well in a wide range of soils. They require good drainage and will not tolerate standing water around their roots. If poor drainage is suspected mound the plant of 12 inches above the lay of the land. Plant in full sun favoring the morning sun in a location that gets at least 8 hours of direct sun a day. Water regularly the first season and less frequently until fully established. Drought tolerant when fully established. Grow as a bush or prune into a tree form. Excellent landscape plant with a quite stunning display of flowers in the early spring. Watch for scale or Leaf footed stinkbug, very few other problems Pomegranates are a great source of antioxidants.
